Minor changes to the program from semester 2, 2012

Ros has been busy re-jigging the program!

1. Writing About the Arts (WRIT7060) has changed from a core course for the Graduate Diploma and Master of Arts (WEP) to an elective. This means that the coursework for the Grad Dip and MA will now consist of FIVE core courses and THREE electives, rather than six core courses and two electives.

2. Grammar in Texts (WRIT7001), an elective that has not been available since 2008, will be replaced by Advanced Writing: Grammar, Syntax, & Style (WRIT7250). WRIT7250 first ran in semester 2 last year with such success that we decided to make it a permanent offering. You can check the electronic course profile on the UQ site to look at the contents of last year's course. Please note that the textbook used last year will not be set again. The Little, Brown Handbook will be the set text for 2/2012.

3. The new course requirements will apply to enrolled students. If you enrolled when WRIT7060 was a compulsory course, you don't need to do it now. However, students with an interest in the arts have always loved this course ('Glorious! Would do it again for fun!'), so, if you're a current student wondering which electives to take alongside the core courses (WRIT7025 on Monday and WRIT7070 on Thursday) for next semester, we highly recommend both WRIT7060, which is usually held on Wednesday nights, and WRIT7250, which is usually held on Tuesday nights. If you have any questions about either of those courses, feel free to contact me.

Congratulations, Kim Wilkins and Ros Petelin

Kim and Ros have received teaching awards recently.

Ros received a Citation from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council for her Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning, which was presented in a ceremony at the Opera House in August.

Kim has won a UQ Faculty of Arts Excellence in Teaching Award this month, which will join the Faculty of Arts Research Award that she won in September.

Springtime in downtown WEPwiki

It might not be spring where you are, but it is in WEPwiki land. We've been clearing the cobWEPs and bringing some fresh scents into the wiki lounge.

We're pulling out some old favourites - your reviews, and starting some new things - a WEP events calendar.

Now we just need some more fresh ideas. Give us your suggestions. What do you want to use the wiki for? How do you want it to look?

WEP on Facebook

If you look a little to your right of the screen, over there in the sidebar, you'll see a little Facebook icon, wittily selected for its nod to writing (editing and publishing). You can click on that or the 'Join us on Facebook' link to join the WEP group on Facebook.

A lively discussion is going on with current students talking about their classes, lecturers posting articles of interest, and everyone enjoying general good WEP times.
